OK, fair enough, alphabet books are pretty straight forward. A is for apple, B is for banana, yada yada yada. This is where the illustrations truly make all the difference. Alison Jay’s book really stands out in our stack of ABC board books- the bright watercolors, the vintage crackles, the pictures just seem to jump from the page. It’s beautifully designed with several hidden treats on each page- (M is for moon, sure, but there’s also a mountain, a moose, a man holding a map, and a tree with a nest in it that leads into the next page, N is for…). A very appealing take on a simple concept.
