My 2 year old daughter got this book for Christmas (Santa, what marvelous taste you have!) and it has since been delighting not just her, but her 5 year old brother, her father, me, and a number of visitors who have come over to have this book shoved into their hands. Press Here by Hervé Tullet is a remarkably interactive book, beginning with a simple yellow dot.

The dots multiply, change color, move across the page, and grow bigger. It’s the kind of book that makes you smile and kind of gasp with the turn of each page- it’s just so simple and yet ingenious. At 35, I can’t just flip through it without actually doing as I’m told on each page. Perhaps it resonates so well now in an age of touch screen innovation- my 2 year old knows how to turn on my iPhone, find her folder of toddler apps with animal sounds and colors with essentially the same actions as this book requires of her. Press Here, while being so basic, is probably as modern a book as they come.
I want to thank one of my favorite bloggers over at Discombobulated for nominating me for a Beautiful Blogger award, I’m honored! I also want to share with you all a new page I’ve found called WeGiveBooks.com, a nonprofit created by Penguin Group. It’s a wonderful resource for free books that you can read online without even signing up (though that’s free, too), including some of the Skippyjon Jones books, Ladybug Girl, The Snowy Day and about 150 other great ones. You should check it out- it’s great way to support literacy worldwide.

great choice Amelie, thanks for sharing this book. it’s refreshing to see such an innovative and simplistic aesthetic, lots of fun. My son, Roger loved it so much that he licked the page.
Ha ha Jess! I don’t remember Tullet asking us to do that…what happened on the next page???
I LOVE Press Here! It’s such an amazing, imaginative book.
Great review!
Thanks! I love coming across books that are so original!
We love PRESS HERE! My youngest (20 months) gets frustrated with it (she’s very impatient), but my older two have loved it for quite a long time. It’s fun.
